South by the Southern Cross
Ever wondered how ancient mariners and their navigators could tell which direction was south using celestial navigation?
Well me too! And so when I discovered the truth I thought I'd share the revelation with the world.
This works regardless of the position of the Southern Cross constellation in the southern sky. Simply draw two imaginary lines in the heavens, one through the main axis of the cross itself, and one perpendicular through the pointers, where the two lines intersect, drop the point to the horizon. That direction will be South.
South using the southern cross, too easy.
